* Food Truck Friday is BACK *    

  • The popular Food Truck Friday event will take place on Short 20th Street in front of City Hall on Friday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m.to 2 p.m. See attached for details.

  • August is National Immunization Awareness Month  

    • In a world where vaccines have been the highlight of many conversations, please don’t forget these “usual” important vaccines:  

      • Flu shot - Usually available annually for everyone 6 months or older  

      • Pneumonia shot - For high-risk adults (smokers, COPD, kidney disease, cancer) and adults 65 years or older  

      • Shingles vaccine - For adults over the age of 50

* Family Movie Night in the park *  

  • Birmingham Park and Rec has announced it will host Family Movie Night at different city parks from August 11 through October 13. This special program, known as “Parks After Dark,” is for all ages and free to the public. The movies will start at sunset.

      • Patton Park on Aug. 11   

      • MLK Rec Center – Aug. 18   

      • Grayson Park – Aug. 25   

      • One Pratt Park – Sept. 1   

      • Ensley Park Rec Center – Sept. 8

      • Harrison Park Rec Center – Sept. 22  

      • North Bham Rec Center – Sept. 29

* Operation Hope launches new digital platform *   

  • Operation Hope is excited to announce the launch of a new digital platform which will improve the process and overall employee experience. Going forward, all City of Birmingham employees will need to register for workshops and/or one-on-one coaching using a customized HOPE code. See attachment for instructions.

  • Five Points West Community Fun Day  

    • Food, games, rides, vendors, live music and a DJ. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Birmingham Crossplex. See attached details.  

  

Saturday, August 20 

  • Negro Southern League Museum to host open host event 

    • Come enjoy the celebration of Sam Hairston and an exhibit honoring the Hairston family dynasty. There will be food trucks, free popcorn and more. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Details attached.  

 

Saturday, August 27  

  • Birmingham Folk Fest  

    • Featuring live blues, jazz, bluegrass, folk, gospel and more. Local vendors. Kid activities. Avondale Ampitheater. 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. Free to all. Details attached.
