Good Afternoon,

We are happy to announce that {insert name of organization} will be volunteering as an organization in The World Games 2022!

This July, thousands of visitors from over 100 nations will travel to watch 3,600 athletes competing in The World Games for 11 days. It will be the largest international multi-sport event to be held in the Southeastern United States since the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and it will mark the first time the event has been hosted in the United States since the inaugural 1981 Games in California. The World Games will generate an estimated $256 million for the Alabama economy.

The Games represent a unique opportunity for Alabamians to host a global audience and demonstrate the hospitality and generosity that characterize The Magic City. TWG volunteers will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this amazing event from the inside, make connections and deliver our famous Southern hospitality to visitors from all over the world.

Here's what you need to know about the application process:

·       Application Eligibility: Each volunteer must complete their own volunteer application in order to be able to participate as an individual, or as part of a group during The World Games. People ages 18 and older, as of July 1, 2022, can apply online for the opportunity to help visitors spectating 34 sports July 7th -17th, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. More than 3,000 volunteers are needed to support the various Games sites that will seat from 500 to 40,000. There is opportunity for volunteers of all ages and abilities, including aspects of the Games such as packaging and medals for our youth volunteers, and seated roles for people of limited mobility.

·       Volunteering as a group: To Volunteer as a “group” with The World Games the following criteria is required:

1) Group must consist of 8 people or more adults (18 years or older)

2) All member must choose to serve at the same days and times

3) Choose to serve at the same event(s)

4) Group members must serve 3 shifts ranging in 4-6 hours each. If volunteering as individuals, instead of in a group, individuals must serve 4 shifts ranging in 4-6 hours each.

·       Background Check: The World Games has been awarded a Level 1, Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) by the Federal government. Due to the Games’ SEAR 1 security status, the highest-ever for an event in Alabama, all volunteers for The World Games must consent to a background check.

·       Determine Best Fit: Applicants will complete a communications survey and participate in a 15-minute live interview where it will be determined if an applicant is a good fit to volunteer for The World Games, as well as which division of The World Games each applicant would be a good fit to serve

·       Value Setting: Once an applicant is accepted as a volunteer for this once in a lifetime event, they will be admitted into an 8-module training process designed to teach them the four “Values of Willingness” officially adopted by The World Games. Each person will learn of the need to have a willingness to serve, listen, respect others, to be solution-focused, and to be a great teammate.

Training is geared to help volunteers find solutions to the inevitable issues cropping up on hot summer days. Experts from across Alabama have developed training to help volunteers learn about each sport, the competitors, venues, diversity, human trafficking, teamwork, customer service, communication and the World Games’ core values. Volunteers can earn continuing education credits for some of the modules.

More information can be found here about the volunteer opportunities with The World Games.

We look forward to participating in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity together!
